About James Conley
Born in Redwood City, California, James spent his early years living throughout the United States. Discovering a love of photography at the age of 12, he began documenting his family life with a Canon AE-1.
James matriculated university at 16, working for both the campus newspaper and yearbook. By 19, he was shooting for the Nashville Tennessean on a regular basis. James also covered assignments for UPI, the Associated Press, and other dailies such as the Los Angeles Times and USA Today, receiving awards and recognition for his work.
In addition to his photography work, James is a licensed attorney, taking select cases in trade secret, intellectual property, and employment matters.
James is currently engaged in international projects in Italy and France as well as commissions in New York and Philadelphia. He is a founding member of picture agency Apogeo Photos, Contributor to London-based LoopImages, a Contributor to Barcelona-based age fotostock, an Image Brief Artist, and an iStock Contributor. Collaboration—Toile Atelier

New Collaboration—CHV Paris
We are very pleased to have been selected as the Brand Photographer for CHV Design, a Paris-based fashion house! We will be creating the images for the launch of a new web store in support of CHV's new collection. We will also be photographing two campaigns featuring the line, for distribution to select clients and buyers.
We are very excited about this new collaboration, and look forward to the many trips to Paris in support of the campaigns!
July 2015—Prague
New Course Location!
We are excited to add Prague to our list of international photography courses. Prague is a gorgeous destination, and is an ideal location for street photography. We spent a week in Prague setting up the logistics, and can't wait to introduce the first group to beautiful Prague.

f/11 is looking for an intern
f/11 is a visual communications company based in Philadelphia. The company provides commercial and documentary photography to a variety of clients, as well as actively promotes educational opportunities for photographers around the world.
f/11 is looking for an ambitious, pro-active, and enthusiastic intern with a strong affinity for communications, art, design, and documentary photography, who enjoys working independently within a small flexible team.
f/11 offers four-month internships, during which interns learn both the business and production sides of photojournalism and commercial photography. The f/11 office team consists of two full time employees and one intern. Accordingly, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about, and participate in, the full spectrum of the business, including communications, social media, sales, the production of materials, visual edits, and special projects production.
This season's intern will be working on a variety of projects, including:
design and layout of the company's publication, “f/11”
- several fashion campaigns
- logistical support (and potential participation in) f-eleven's photography courses
- logistical support and preparation of several international documentary photography projects
- logistical support and preparation for a documentary photography event
An internship position is available beginning September 28, 2015 and ending on January 29, 2016, full time (5 days a week, Monday – Friday). The applicant should be available to commit to the full term of the internship, but we are open to discussing flexible schedules.
Accurate knowledge of English in both journalistic writing and speaking is essential. Additional language skills are welcome. Experience and knowledge of SquareSpace and LightRoom will be useful. A candidate well-versed on social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – is desirable.
We love working with interns who are keen to learn, take initiative, perform well on deadline, have strong skills in prioritizing work, and have an eye for detail.
The following are required In order to be considered for an internship. Please understand that if you don’t qualify, unfortunately you will not be contacted:
- You must to be able to support yourself during the internship, including finding and paying for your own accommodation. f/11's internship allowance is $400/month.
- You must be legally allowed to work in the United States.
- Your English must be fluent (spoken and written).
- You must be available for both domestic and international travel. Accordingly, you must either have a passport, or be eligible to obtain a passport.
- Additionally, because f/11 provides brand photography for CHV Design (a Paris fashion house), there may be opportunities to build a modeling portfolio.
